Android Take 9% of Smartphone Market with Over 178K Phones Sold in India in Q3
A recent report from IDC’s India Quarterly Mobile Handsets Tracker, 3Q 2010, Android captured 9 percent share in Indian smartphone market. Remember that it was only 2.9% in 3Q 2009. Also in the third quarter of 2010, the total number of Android smartphone sales was approximately 178,000 units and it was only 63,000 units in the second quarter. Now India is a fast growing smartphone market and specially Android is in top of them and its the main reason why every company launching their Android smartphone here even at low price.
Now Indian markets have all the leasing manufacturers along with the the local mobile manufacturer with releasing Android smartphones in India. This time Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Micromax, Intex, Videocon etc all have Android smartphones available currently in the market. The range included with high-end to low-end and surely next year we'll see more Android smartphone by all companies.
According to Naveen Mishra, Lead Analyst, Mobile Handsets Research, IDC India, “In the smartphone segment an increasing number of vendors are displaying confidence in the Android OS, having grown from just one vendor in 3Q 2009 to as many as seven in 3Q 2010. This trend is expected to show healthy growth as the Android applications ecosystem widens in terms of its reach into the developer community and number of users, both of which will further prompt device vendors to introduce new models”.
According to IDC’s India Quarterly Mobile Handsets Tracker, 3Q 2010, Samsung led the Android adoption in India, while Sony Ericsson was at top in 2nd quarter. A worldwide hit Galaxy S, along with cheaper Galaxy 5 and Galaxy 3 were the main drivers for company’s Android shipments in India.
