Samsung and LG announced their new next generation LCDdisplaytechnologies. Samsung's Mobile Display division showcased a working prototype of the Super PLS (Super Plan to Line Switching) LCD screen. This will offer 100% wider viewing angles and 10% higher brightness than old IPS LCDscreen technology which found on the iPhone 4 and iPad.
With Super PLS LCD screen we can get 10% brightness boost and double of the viewing angles.
The Super PLS LCD displays will support resolution up to to WXGA resolution (1280 x 768 pixels) and will cost about 15 percent less to manufacture. Mass production is slated for early next year and will be integrated in future smartphones.
At same time LG Display and QD Vision, Inc. announced a joint development agreement focused on creating highly-efficient, high-performance active matrix displays based on electroluminescent quantum dot LED (QLED) nanotechnology. But LG doesn't have a working prototype to show this time. The display will require much less energy than current products, while producing brighter, richer colors. The new breakthrough products will employ patterned thin films of QD Vision quantum dots to create a direct-view, active matrix display. In addition to energy and color improvements, the new technology is expected to lower display manufacturing costs by greatly simplifying the overall display manufacturing process.
“LG Display has always been at the forefront of advanced display technology. This partnership with QD Vision will accelerate development of exciting new LGD products for the rapidly expanding display marketplace, and increase our industry leadership position,” said Chang-Dong Kim, Vice President of LG Display.
